Children learn from a diverse range of learning experiences, therefore we will take children on field trips to visit a range of people, places and things such as a farm, fire station and airport. These trips will be designed for our children over two years old. All aged children also make regular trips locally to the park, town and the library. Some of our trips may have a related fee and parents will be notified in advance of any outing or cost.
We have an all-weather play area for the children and offer a time of whole group outdoor play as well as free choice time before lunch. Please check the weather forecast as children are required to have a sun hat, or rain coat depending upon the weather. We expect you to put sunscreen on your child before they arrive and we will ensure that more is applied after lunch as required.
We have a dedicated sleep room for children over two years old, who require an afternoon nap. Depending on the age of your child, they are either expected to sleep, rest on a mattress, or engage in quiet reading, puzzles, and small group table games in the early afternoon. In our nursery we have a dedicated sleep room for our youngest infants and a multi use room for toddlers to sleep in when they have only one afternoon sleep. Where possible we will follow the home sleeping plan for our youngest babies.
Please supply your child's nappies, as then you can choose the shape, style and size that are most suitable for your child. We will remind you when your child has less than a week's supply available in the center, which means you can replace them at your convenience instead of having to rush to the supermarket at short notice.
How many 5 year olds do you know who wear nappies? That's right, not many; if any. However, it is not uncommon nowadays for the occasional three year old to wear nappies. At Elim we have established a culture where two year olds are encouraged to start toilet training. With this in place, some children get it while others are just not ready. Our experience tells us that children learn to use the toilet at many different ages from 18 months through to 3 and a half. We will work in partnership with you to train your child on an individual basis, when they are ready.
